Do you want your house to feel cool and comfortable without air conditioning?
By PT JAYABRIX INDONESIA
A cool and comfortable place to live is a dream for everyone who lives in urban areas. To realize this, the use of AC (Air Conditioner) is often an option. However, apart from not being good for environmental sustainability, using air conditioning can also increase electricity bills. Even though your house can feel cool and comfortable even without using air conditioning. Want to know how? Check out the following tips.
Use a Cross Ventilation System
As we know, ventilation in the house has a function to circulate air circulation. For homes in tropical climates, a cross ventilation system can optimize air circulation so that the house feels cooler and more comfortable. To apply this cross ventilation system is actually easy. It is enough to put two openings facing each other in one room. So that the air easily flows in and out. It doesn't have to be a window, you can also place doors and windows opposite each other. The smoother the air circulation, the less heat in the house.
High Ceilings
In addition to ensuring smooth air circulation, the height of the roof of the house is also an influential factor. The higher the distance between the floor and the roof or ceiling of the house, the cooler our dwellings will be. This is because the flow of heat radiation from sunlight starts from the roof of the house first. So the higher the roof distance, the slower the sun's heat reaches the occupants. By combining a high roof and a cross ventilation system, it is guaranteed that the occupancy feels cooler and more comfortable.
Apply Open Space Design
Open space designs have recently been widely used by Indonesian architects. As the name implies, the open space design reduces the number of partitions in the house. Generally, this concept is implemented by combining the living room, family room and dining room into one long and wide area.
Apart from making the house appear wider, the open space concept also makes air circulation smooth because there are not many barriers that get in the way. This concept is very suitable to be applied in tropical climates such as Indonesia. With a house that is not too big, we can have a house that looks spacious and cool.
Maximize the Garden in the Middle of the House
Lately the placement of green open space in the middle of the house has become a trend in Indonesia. In addition to making the house look more beautiful and beautiful, the existence of a garden with an opening in the roof in the middle of the house effectively lowers the air temperature to make it cooler. Because, trees and various other plants will release oxygen in the house.
No need to be big. A garden measuring 2 x 1 meter in the middle of the house is enough to make the house feel cool and comfortable. Especially if you add a small fish pond complete with a fountain. The sound of gurgling water during the day will bring peace to the hearts of the residents.
Use Insulator Materials Like Light Bricks
The most important but often forgotten thing is to use an insulator material. Insulator material can ward off heat from outside the house. One such insulator material is lightweight brick. Light brick does have the advantage of being a good insulator compared to red brick. The pores in the light brick are able to ward off heat from outside the house, but still maintain the coolness inside the house. These pores are the result of aeration technology applied when making lightweight bricks. In addition, the lightweight brick drying process uses high-pressure autoclaved curing technology. By drying above a temperature of 1000 degrees Celsius it makes a perfectly dry light brick texture. These two technologies make lightweight brick a better insulating material than red brick. Moreover, brick is the most dominant material in building houses.
By using lightweight bricks as a wall material, our homes will feel cool and comfortable. But remember, don't just choose a lightweight brick brand. Use lightweight bricks from manufacturers who have tested their quality and production technology.
