No Need to Call a Builder, Here's How to Repair a Damaged Ceiling Practically and Easily
By PT JAYABRIX INDONESIA
Recently, the intensity of the rain which has fallen quite high has caused problems for the house. One of them is the ceiling. Tampias of water or roof leaks can make the ceiling of the house stained or even have holes because it is fragile. As a result, our house is no longer pleasing to the eye. Want to call a handyman to fix it, but bear it because only a small part is damaged. Don't worry, you can fix it yourself.
Remove the damaged ceiling from the frame
Generally, the ceiling of the house is divided into several small parts. Well, remove one part of this damaged ceiling from the frame. Actually, you might just cut off the damaged part but the result will be less beautiful. So, it's better to remove one part that is damaged. So that after installing the new ceiling, it looks neat as before.
Make sure the ceiling frame is still sturdy and strong
After the ceiling is removed, you have to make sure the ceiling frame in the damaged part doesn't experience fragility. This is because a ceiling that is damaged due to a leak or water seepage has also spread to the frame. Especially ceiling frames made of wood are very susceptible to weathering due to water. But if the ceiling frame in your house already uses hollow iron, it tends to be stronger.
Measure the needs of the ceiling with a meter precisely
After making sure the ceiling frame is still strong and sturdy, you can start measuring the needs of the ceiling to be installed. At this stage, you have to be careful so you don't get the wrong size. Because, the results of this measurement will be used to cut the new ceiling as needed. You are free to use any measuring instrument as long as the measurement results are precise.
Cut the new ceiling to size
From the results of these measurements, apply to the new ceiling sheet. Make the pattern first with a pencil or marker. After that you can cut it carefully. For optimal results, we recommend that you use a grinder with eyes that match the ceiling material. You also have to be careful in cutting the ceiling so that it fits when installed later.
Use screws to attach the ceiling to the frame
To attach the ceiling to the frame, use screws every 20-30 cm. Screws are much more practical than nails. Especially for ceiling installation. When using nails, you need someone else's help to hold the ceiling to be installed. Nailing from the bottom is quite difficult to do. While installing the screw, you just need to place it at the end of the electric drill which is usually equipped with a magnet. You can install it effortlessly.
In addition, screws can be used on many media. Starting from wood, metal, gypsum, and silica board. The installation results are even stronger. This is because in the body of the screw there is a thread which besides making it easier for the screw to penetrate the material, it also acts as a lock so that the screw does not come loose.
You also don't have to worry about getting it wrong. This is because the screw is easily removed by reversing the electric drill rotation. Screws that have been used can still be used again. It's different from nails, which after being removed, their shape is no longer straight and can't be used anymore.
But, you also have to carefully choose the screw that will be used. Choose a screw from a trusted manufacturer of quality. For example, the Jaya Brix Screw, which has a Philips Bugle type sharp tip, makes it faster and easier to install. In addition, this type of screw has been tested not to damage the material to be installed. The screw head is also flat so the results are neater.
Close the screw head using a cornice to make it neater
Now, after the ceiling is firmly attached, you can cover the screw head with the cornice so that the results are neater and the screws are no longer visible. You can also use a cornice to fill in between the ceiling boards. So that the ceiling appears to blend with one another. Lastly, paint according to your taste.
